Jim Flanagan

Floater

Jim has been teaching outdoor/environmental education since the mid 1990s—and has been exploring the natural world all of his life. He believes that nature is one of the greatest teachers. Sharing nature with children has been a primary focus of his 30 year career including leading hikes, running camps, creating field trip experiences and introducing the wonders of nature to all who will listen. Jim is looking forward to engaging the children at Hort Woods in activities that give them the opportunity to ask interesting questions, investigate new ideas and learn about their own interests.  Jim has a Masters degree in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Montana and finds anthropology's focus on holistic learning and critical thinking to be one of the most important factors in working with young learners who never cease to surprise us all. Jim’s hobbies include anything outdoors and near water especially exploring, hiking and fly fishing; he is also an avid disc golfer. Jim and his family Maeve, Declan, wife and partner Stephanie and 2 dogs and 1 cat have been in Happy Valley since 2009.
